Year 9 Philosopher Visit

On November 18th, Mr Regalo arranged for social and political philosopher, Dr Suzy Killmister, to visit our Year 9 Philosophy class. The incursion involved a short talk from Dr Killmister, followed by a Q&A session. It was a very insightful class and everyone had the chance to ask questions and learn about what an academic philosopher does in their day-to-day life.

Dr Killmister spoke to us about her pathway to becoming a philosopher, as well as the ups and downs of academic life. She mentioned many positive aspects, including a large amount of creative freedom, being able to take frequent breaks from work, and an ability to contribute your invaluable ‘droplet’ to the ‘pool of knowledge’. She highlighted the importance of philosophy, and how it may impact the way society thinks about ideas (such as dignity and numerous ways. This experience was quite profound as it was a privilege to listen and gain knowledge about philosophy’s multiple facets.
