What is our curriculum?
Pursue study that’s right for you.
___
Mac.Rob is a vibrant learning community where students are supported and guided in making autonomous decisions about their study choices. A central aim of the school curriculum is to provide students with relevant and challenging educational opportunities enhanced by the incorporation of learning technologies and rigorous teaching.
Year 9 Curriculum
In Year 9, a combination of core studies and elective studies enable students to both consolidate learning in key areas and investigate new areas of study. Students are encouraged to explore their interests and to start thinking about subjects and areas of study they may wish to pursue in later Years.
Every student must undertake a full year of study in each Domain. The structure of the courses offered within each Domain have been designed to offer opportunities enrichment, while ensuring all students have a strong foundation for choice and acceleration at Year 10, and in further studies in the VCE or IB programs.
Enrolling students will be asked to express their preferences within the Arts & Technology and Languages domains, and we will endeavour to accommodate those preferences within the constraints of the timetable. The table below gives an overview of the course structure for Year 9 at Mac.Rob.
Please note we do not offer Accelerated Maths in 2025.
Year 10 Curriculum
At Year 10, a combination of subject choices enables students to consolidate learning and investigate new subjects in a range of learning areas.
The Year 10 curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad range of subjects that support breadth of knowledge, essential skills and deep learning opportunities. Students are encouraged to pursue their interests and passions in Year 10 while still considering their VCE or IB pathway.
Every student must undertake a full year of study in each Domain. The structure of the courses offered within each Domain has been designed to offer opportunities for choice and enrichment, while ensuring all students have a strong foundation for further studies in the VCE or IB programs. Students must choose one stream for each domain.
Year 11 and 12 Pathways
Mac.Rob offers a choice of pathway for students in Years 11 and 12: The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), or the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB).
VCE
The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is Victoria’s senior secondary qualification. It opens pathways to university, higher-level TAFE or VET certificate courses, apprenticeships, traineeships and the workforce. Students undertake a number of units in a wide range of subjects, generally completing their VCE across two years of study.
Information about VCE can be found at the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) Website www.vcaa.vic.edu.au.
I.B. Diploma
The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) is an internationally recognised programme of education for students in Years 11 and 12. Recognising service and the importance of a holistic approach to student learning and development, the programme offers a broad, personalised “learner-centred” education, fostering international understanding and preparing students for life beyond school.
Research demonstrates that an IB education has a positive impact on students and the schooling communities that they are a part of. Past students have commented on their sense of preparedness, self-confidence, research skills and their ability to manage their time after engaging in the IB Diploma Programme.
Information about IB program can be found on the IB Website www.ibo.org.
A central aim of the school curriculum is to ensure every student achieves success through a rigorous, innovative and broad curriculum.
