Social Justice Matters Video Competition

All Mac.Rob students were recently invited to participate in the Monash Arts Social Justice Matters Video Competition, where they could combine their creative talents with their passion for social service, advocacy and improving the world in which we live. Below are two stories of successful student entries.

“During the last few weeks of Term 3, Cori (Year 11), Lahari (Year 11), and I participated in Monash University’s Social Justice Matters Video Competition. We are very passionate about Youth Mental Health so we chose it to be our topic for our video. Our video was an animation that used a series of minimalistic drawings to convey the issue. The video began with us highlighting the importance of Youth Mental Health through displaying experiences and statistics. We then provided how we as a society can help Youth Mental Health through de-stigmatisation of mental health, before ending on a call to action. We were honoured to have our video selected as the runners-up, and hope that it can spread further awareness about Youth Mental Health, as it is ever so important especially in our current times.”

Hedy (Year 11)

“Following the rising concerns of fast fashion in urban cities, I submitted a video essay detailing the overlooked consequences of fast fashion and the steps individuals may take to minimise these repercussions. I was very interested in this topic because of its impacts upon workers rights in developing nations, its environmental deterioration and the standards of the fashion industry. I was lucky enough to be awarded the overall prize and hope to take this interest into future opportunities.”

Amanda (Year 12)
