IB Collaborative Sciences Project
At the beginning of the Term, the IB Chemistry and Biology students participated in the Collaborative Science Project, an essential part of the IB science curriculum, which tests teamwork and creative thinking in creating and solving challenges. Our first challenge of the day was our escape room excursion which we worked through in groups. Between deactivating bombs, dodging swinging monkeys and taming dragons, we practised our teamwork skills and problem solving.
Inspired by the escape rooms, we returned to school with our primary task, creating a challenge of our own to test our peers’ Biology and Chemistry knowledge. We spent the remainder of the day listening to each other’s ideas, merging creative concepts and overcoming obstacles (with a quick pizza break at lunchtime), resulting in an end product of equal contribution and equal pride.
Along the way, we reflected on our collaborative skills critically, with the constant goal of improvement, and submitted our reflection to the IB. This was a great opportunity to create a unique project that combines the skills and knowledge that we have gained from our respective subjects.
Finally, we presented our ideas to the school community, who had the opportunity to participate in the puzzle we had created. Through this, we got to practise some on the spot thinking when things didn't go as planned, as well as reflect on how we can improve our collaborative process in the future.
Overall, we learnt to focus on the journey, not the product, and honed and reflected on our collaborative skills that we will now be able to apply throughout our careers and lives in general.
Thank you to Ms. Smith and Ms. Rose for organising such an engaging day and pushing us to study in new and creative ways.
