Girl Power in Engineering and IT
I am very pleased to share that I have been selected to participate in the ‘Girl Power in Engineering and IT’ initiative run by the University of Melbourne. This four-year long, fully-funded program is a way for high school girls to learn more about engineering and information technology pathways directly from leading professionals in the field. This program has been established to increase awareness about engineering and IT and encourage young girls to participate in them. It aims to improve the representation of women in engineering and IT, as currently, women only make up 18% of Engineering and IT professionals in Australia.
Over the course of the next fews years, I will have the opportunity to: Learn about career pathways in engineering and IT; participate in lectures, hands-on workshops, and camps; gain mentoring opportunities; and engage with like-minded students and staff from the University, as well as industry professionals. The program will allow me to form a network with students from across the state. The final stage of the program will facilitate career advice and mentoring for university applications.
Such opportunities provide a great way for high school students to learn about potential pathways and expand their horizons, and I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who is interested.
