Australian Geographic Competition 2021

The Australian Geography Competition (AGC) is a test of geographic skills and knowledge, and is open to secondary students across Australia. The competition draws on students’ ability to interpret data in a variety of formats, including maps, aerial photographs, satellite images, diagrams, graphs and other statistical depictions, and apply their geographic knowledge. The competition is the initiative of the Australian Teachers’ Association and the Royal Geographic Society, and is sponsored by the Department of Education, Skills & Employment and the University of Melbourne.

In 2021, 73,000 students from 727 schools across Australia sat the test. This included all our Year 9 students and a number of students in Years 10 and 11 who self-selected to sit the test. It was very pleasing to see that 46 Mac.Rob students achieved Distinctions and 41 participants achieved a High Distinction, and of these High Distinctions, six of our students attained a result that put them in the top 1% for the competition! Remarkably, two of our Year 9 students, Shannon (9A) and Angela (9I) were awarded equal first in the state, together with three other students from Victoria.

The High Distinction awardees were:

Congratulations to all participants!

Ms. Susy Puszka, Mr. Nuccio Gurciullo and Ms. Rose Moloney, Geography teachers
