Year 11 Remembrance Day Ceremony
In a heartfelt tribute to honour the fallen soldiers of World War I, three Year 11 students from our school participated in the Remembrance Service organized by the Council of Port Phillip. The solemn event took place at the Remembrance Garden in Port Melbourne, where Tanveer R, Elizabeth O'M, and Molly B played key roles in a moving ceremony that brought together the community, including the families of our students.
Tanveer R opened the service with reading of the "Declaration of WW1," setting a tone of reflection and remembrance. Elizabeth O'M followed with a gripping recitation of the "Robert Menzies transcript," the importance of never forgetting the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. Molly B concluded the readings with a stirring rendition of 'In Flanders Fields,' a powerful poem that captured the essence of the day.
As part of the ceremony, Lt Col Lockwood, Cr Bond, and Cdr Yorke to lay a wreath in memory of the fallen heroes. our students joined and laid poppies, symbolizing remembrance, and respect, while the attendees were given the opportunity to place their own poppies to honour the fallen soldiers.
The ceremony included the choir from Elwood College added a musical dimension to the event with their beautiful and moving performance.
This Remembrance Day service was a touching and emotional experience. We are immensely proud of Tanveer R, Elizabeth O'M, and Molly B for representing our school with such grace and reverence, and for contributing to a truly meaningful event in our community.
