World’s Greatest Shave 2022

On Friday, April 1st, Social Service held the World’s Greatest Shave! The World's Greatest Shave is an annual Mac.Rob tradition held to raise awareness and funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, and students and staff piled into the Hall to show their support, with music, cheering, and applause all adding to the day’s excitement.

In 2022, the Leukaemia Foundation will celebrate 24 years of the World’s Greatest Shave — making it one of Australia’s longest-running and most-loved fundraising events. More than 2 million Aussies have taken part over the past two decades, with an estimated 37,500 kilograms of hair removed! Funds raised through the World’s Greatest Shave provide families and individuals facing blood cancer with the special care they need to make it through every scary, uncertain moment that follows a diagnosis. This care is critical and precious relief for families who may need to face weeks, months or sometimes even years of treatment.

“Participating in the World’s Greatest Shave was a fantastic experience and I definitely will never forget it. Not only was I able to support the Leukaemia Foundation and raise awareness about blood cancer, but I was also able to connect with so many amazing people who were super supportive and friendly. I’m really grateful to everyone who donated to this amazing cause and encouraged us throughout the process. And to everyone who reads this, this is your sign to try out the World’s Greatest Shave at least once. I promise you won’t regret it!” - Bethany A S

Mac.Rob’s 2022 team, ‘Love is in the Hair’, consisted of 12 participants, both students and teachers. Students that cut their hair were Melani S, Namya M, Gracie G, Sahana S, Manya S C, Ava H, Nimisha K, and Senuri P, whilst Bethany A shaved. Additionally, the teachers that participated were Mr. McNahmee and Ms. Stoppa, who shaved, as well as Ms. Williams, who coloured her hair. Altogether, we raised $5,201 (as of April 7th), through generous donations from students, friends, family, staff and the wider community! The Social Service team also fundraised $240.45 as part of this by selling hand-made stickers and photocards at the event!

Social Service would like to give our heartfelt thanks to everybody involved in the event, including participants, donors, assisting students and staff, as well as everybody who attended!
