Welcome to Country and Term 1

Welcome to 2022! The start of the school year is always a hectic time - Year 9 students are adjusting to a new school and way of learning; Year 10s are settling back in and exploring new responsibilities; Year 11s are commencing their VCE student; and Year 12s are preparing for their final year of high school. Our staff, rested after the summer break, are preparing to continue their delivery of exceptional, stimulating teaching under less-than-ideal situations as the global pandemic continues. And our community is keen to reconnect with with their child’s teachers, their school leaders, and the many events that make Mac.Rob such a vibrant and energetic place to learn and grow.

This year, our cohort was extremely privileged to be welcomed back to school and to country by Uncle Shane and Eric of the Bunurong Land Council, the traditional owners of the land Mac.Rob is built upon. Students and staff gathered for our first whole-school assembly of the year, participating in a smoking ceremony, a traditional practice to cleanse, welcome, and connect to country. As part of their welcome to Mac.Rob, our Year 9 students receiving a seedling of native bush tucker to nurture in their home gardens, or to contribute to the school grounds. These are are just a couple of the ways Mac.Rob is affirming our commitment to the indigenous peoples of the land on which we work, teach, and learn this year, with many more to come.

Many thanks to Uncle Shane, Eric, and the Bunurong Land Council for this wonderful welcome back to country - an inspirational way to celebrate the start of a new year of growth, community, responsibility, and compassion!
