VCE Theatre Studies Update | Term 3, 2022

Even though the Mac.Rob Theatre has been out of use due to the current renovations, it has still been a hectic year for VCE Theatre Studies students, who have had their lessons at Melbourne High School. The Unit 3-4 class produced a stunning and innovative interpretation of ‘Frankenstein’. The ‘Brechtian’ styling included casting three doctors and three creatures. Callie Chan’s original costume designs were inspired. The stage was specially constructed to envelop the audience in the action. The horror and pathos of the original script were brought to life with intellect and energy.

In complete contrast, the Unit 1-2 class presented Oscar Wilde’s classic farce: ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’. All set pieces, props and furniture were reused from previous productions. The hilarious script was faithfully interpreted by an enthusiastic cast, to the delight of the audience.

Stay tuned for further public presentation by the Theatre Studies class, which hopefully will take place soon in the newly-renovated Mac.Rob Theatre. In the meantime, tickets to the combined Mac.Rob and MHS production of “Stories in the Dark”, performing September 15th-18th, are on sale now.
