Tiger Global Case Competition 2021

From August 6th-14th, I was fortunate to participate in the Tiger Global Case Competition 2021 (TGCC). The Tiger Global Case Competition is a business challenge held virtually every year.

A case competition is a team of students that are provided with a business scenario of a real company facing challenges. We had to become the management consultants for the company to identify the most prominent issue and craft a solution. The team that presents the best strategy wins the competition and has cracked the case!

2021’s case study was to identify a strategic target company for Renesas, a Japanese semiconductor manufacturer, to acquire. After researching a company, we had to defend our choice to the Renesas board.

The team included myself and my fellow Year 9s, Keely and Preet. We designed a strategy to acquire the company Advanced Micro Devices (also known as AMD) for Renesas. AMD is an American multinational semiconductor company that develops computer processors. Along with a sufficient strategy, we needed to calculate the profits, losses, revenue synergies and cost synergies to analyse what effect the acquisition had on Renesas’ finances.

This challenge has helped me learn more about business and finance and it is something that I enjoyed participating in. The eight-day competition is an amazing way to build a broad suite of skills in business and finance. For those who are interested, I would highly suggest taking part in it next year, as it is a great experience.

More information on the Tiger Global Case Competition can be found here.

So, do you think you have what it takes to crack the case?
