Social Service: Relay For Life

On Saturday, March 26th, a team of 15 students from Mac.Rob participated in the annual Cancer Council Relay for Life event at Auburn High School, Hawthorn East. Relay for Life is a worldwide movement and is the largest peer-to-peer fundraising event for cancer, held globally by nations’ respective cancer organisations. In Australia, it is an invigorating and moving experience that raises vital funds for Cancer Council's research, prevention and support services, bringing communities together to fight back against cancer, remember loved ones lost, and celebrate cancer survivorship.

From 9 am to 7 pm, Mac.Rob students, as well as those from other select-entry high schools, ran, walked, jogged, and skipped laps around Auburn High School’s oval. Students took turns completing laps, switching when they were tired; this ensured that everybody received a turn and that the team performed to the best of their ability. As students rested, they socialised with others and listened to music, all the while continuing to encourage their teammates on the field. Overall, the Mac.Rob team walked a total of over 430 laps, in the process, raising over $3,100 for the Cancer Council!

Chloe S, Mac.Rob Relay For Life team member: “Last weekend, I participated in Relay for Life to help fundraise for the Cancer Council. It was such an amazing event, doing laps with my friends, listening to music and meeting lots of new people while also supporting a great cause. It is definitely an event that I would recommend and will be doing again in the following years!”

Ultimately, Social Service would like to sincerely thank everybody involved in the event, particularly the 15 students in Mac.Rob’s team: Anna T, Caroline M, Chloe S, Frenanda W, Grace L, Adeline T, Alice X, Kattie Z, Laya L, Melissa C, Nicky P, Sophie C, and Yimao W as well as Social Service Captains, Hedy S and Crystal P!
