Senior AFL Regionals

On Thursday, July 27th, 20 students travelled to Seaford with Ms. Rollinson and Mr. Hayakawa to participate in the Southern Metropolitan Secondary Australian Football Senior Girls Region Finals. This is the first time in known history that Mac.Rob has advanced to the regional stage of inter-school competition (after Mac.Rob was the only entrant for the Beachside district this year). The Senior team was represented valiantly by two Year 9 students, two Year 10 students, fifteen Year 11 students and one Year 12 student.

The weather was perfect and Mac.Rob competed against three schools: Berwick SC, SEDA and Parkdale SC. Mac.Rob fought hard throughout all three games and were quite evenly matched with Berwick SC; we were a real chance until Berwick scored some lucky goals late in the last half. SEDA and Parkdale SC proved too strong for us and Parkdale SC will likely advance to the next round. Arpitha N (10B) was named captain on the day due to her outstanding commitment to training throughout the year. Arpitha led by example all day with her hard defensive efforts and attack on the ball. Rebecca B (11B), Anshka Y (10L) and Ani I (11G) were also valuable across the backline and the midfield. Katie Y (11F) and Anya P (12I) showed amazing toughness and determination by returning to play out the remaining games after taking some hard knocks in the first game. Orla McM (11K) and Leviana L (11H) flew high in the ruck while Poorva G (11B), Niveda J (11B), Setareh S (11B), Mishka A (11L) and Gia C (11L) fought hard all day with amazing efforts in varying positions. Our youngest players, Nidhi B (9E) and Athanasia P (9G), were fantastic all day with their clean skills and hard running while our more seasoned players, Jagdeep  K (11C), Jolie T (11D), Isabella L (11F), Mary M (11F) and Sarah A (11H) worked hard all day and made valuable contributions across the midfield and backline.

Mac.Rob's true spirit was definitely on display with all players showing hard-work, determination and support for each other all day. A highlight of the day was the sportsmanship displayed by a student from Parkdale SC along with Sarah A who helped an injured Leviana L make her way to the bench while play continued. Well done to all players on a rewarding and fun-filled day out at the Southern Metropolitan Secondary Australian Football Senior Girls Region Finals. Stay tuned for more Mac.Rob AFL action as we take on Adelaide High School at the Adelaide Exchange in August!
