Reconciliation Week, 2023
Reconciliation Week was a significant time for our school community as we deepened our understanding of the rich cultural heritage of our First Nations peoples. Our commitment to incorporating Indigenous perspectives into our curriculum ensures that our students gain insight into the diverse knowledge systems, languages, and traditions that have shaped this land for thousands of years. Through this approach, we foster a sense of belonging and provide an inclusive learning environment for all.
On May 29th, Mac.Rob held a Reconciliation assembly that offered a range of enriching experiences. The assembly featured a captivating didgeridoo performance, thought-provoking storytelling by our esteemed guest speaker, Sister Gabby, and an insightful overview of Mac Rob's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) presented by our student representatives. Active engagement in this assembly cultivated a profound admiration for the diverse cultures within our school and the broader Australian society. The entire school community participated in this opportunity for cultural appreciation and harmonious coexistence.
It is important to note that Reconciliation is not limited to a single week; rather, it is an ongoing journey that requires our sustained commitment and dedication. Our aim is to create a school community that actively promotes reconciliation, where every voice is heard, and where diversity is celebrated.
Throughout the week, numerous events took place to further our reconciliation efforts. The student representatives of the Reconciliation Action Plan group attended a Sorry Day event organized by the Port Philip council, allowing them to engage with the wider community and deepen their understanding of the significance of reconciliation. Additionally, our staff members received lanyards designed by an Indigenous artist, the design encapsulates the story and knowledge behind it, symbolising our collective commitment to reconciliation.
