Outreach Mentoring Program Training

The Mac.Rob Outreach Mentoring Program is an opportunity for our Year 10 students to become mentors for Grade 5 and 6 students from rural and regional areas with high potential and a special interest in Science, Technology and Engineering. On Friday, April 1st, we had our first mentor training session. We set out to create strategies and activities with our Melbourne High counterparts to encourage kids to flourish in Science, Technology, and Engineering and to gain confidence in STEM-related skills. We realised throughout our mentorship session that we all had various backgrounds and experiences, but one thing was clear: We all came together to share our passion for learning.

Our mentoring and introduction session was hosted by Ms. Rochelle Day, in which she helped us discuss the fundamentals of becoming a fantastic student mentor. The Mentoring Program will run for the entire second term in the online space, as well as a camp in Melbourne CBD, where primary students and mentors will meet in person to engage in enrichment activities and further enhance their skills. This experience will be exhilarating and fascinating for we mentors, and we can't wait to learn from the activities, meet fun and innovative individuals, and improve our STEM and mentoring skills.
