Mac.Rob Teaching & Learning Update | Term 1, 2023

This year we launched our new school vision: Honouring diversity. Inspiring curiosity and creativity. Transforming lives. We have been living our vision this term.

Honouring Diversity

With the help of a community Aboriginal consultant, Mac.Rob started our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) journey. This team is the largest voluntary team at Mac.Rob with staff and students coming together to discuss ways in which we can build respect, relationships and opportunities in the classroom for a more reconciled Australia. Further, our RAP student members read aloud former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's apology to the Stolen Generations as part of our honouring of National Apology Day on 13 February. If any family members are interested in joining our RAP Working Group, please reach out to Maddie Witter, Assistant Principal.

Inspiring Curiosity and Creativity

In our classrooms, students are investigating big questions, exploring the curriculum through hands-on practicals, and having lively discussions. This year our staff are working closely together during after-school team meetings to collaboratively problem-solve ways in which they can continue delivering a robust, thoughtful curriculum that meets the needs of every child. We believe as a staff we are stronger together, and by putting our minds together we will continue to deliver a consistent program that builds curiosity and creativity every day.

Transforming Lives

Mac.Rob transforms lives, and our newest Mac.Robbians are settling into our Mac.Rob classrooms and culture. Next week they're off to Year 9 camp! Our Mac.Rob alumni, the Palladians, alongside the Melbourne High School alumni offer a Junior Leadership Program, or the JLP. JLP involves a series of 6 sessions which are designed to expose students to leadership roles, and extend students' leadership skills. Throughout the program, students will explore eight skills that are important for quality leadership: ethics, listening skills, responsibility, organisation, flexibility and  planning, communication and honesty, and emotional intelligence. We look forward to our newest JLP students being able to share what they've learnt with our broader community.
