Premier's Reading Challenge Reflection.
Did you know that our Library has 8,347 books? The shelves are full of VCE and IB study resources and Year 9 and 10 study texts, as well as reading for pleasure books; our Library is our academic heart of our learning growth. This year, our Library has secured over 200 requested books by teachers and students. Our librarians are ready to chat with you and recommend some exciting new titles personalised just for you.
The Year 9 Premier’s Reading Challenge Review competition is always a great crowd pleaser. Avid readers and new readers support their Connect Class by reading and reviewing. As you already know 9G won this year and 9D came in second place! Both enjoyed a fun Connect Class pizza party.
This year we tried something new: Extra categories were offered for reviews. A prize for the best Historical text review to expand historical knowledge and skills was included. So many students submitted amazing reviews. Congratulations to Heidi H (9H) for their historical book review of E.B. Sledge's novel, With The Old Breed.
To connect International Women’s Day and highlight Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander authors in honour of Marica Langton’s visit to Mac.Rob, the Australian Education Union offered two prizes for the best Indigenous female author reviews. Congratulations to Catherine W (9F) for her review of Claire G. Coleman’s Terra Nullius, and Chloe L (9G) for her review of Sally Morgan’s Sister Heart.
Prize winners received a copy of Marcia Langton's new book, The Welcome to Country Handbook and a voucher to purchase something to acknowledge their reading commitment.
Thank you to all the readers who submitted their reviews. It is impressive to see Year 9 students continue to value reading by entering this exciting Connect Class competition organised by the librarians and Ms. Cordingley.

Expanding resources through community support.
Through funds donated by parents, which we have been extremely grateful for, the LRC has been able to provide many new resources throughout the year. Students have requested books and we have been able to purchase the majority of them. Staff have also requested materials to support the curriculum and to help us provide a collection of resources that enable variety, equality, engagement, education, and different perspectives for students and fellow staff to consider.
Humanities has had the largest contribution to the collection, with Mr. James Desmond recommending thought-provoking resources which are being borrowed regularly. Mr. Nam Nguyen has also recommended Media resources, and we purchased chemistry resources as recommended by Ms. Mirela Matthews.
End of year wrap-up.
This year, we have had:
Over 8500 loans of books.
More than 1050 were study guides.
1100 VCE resource loans.
Fiction collection: Fantasy was the most well-borrowed at over 950 loans.
Added almost 1800 books to the collection.
We have moved the physical library collections around numerous times this year, and have finally settled on locations for each area we are happy with. Signage is being ordered to enable students to find what they are looking for with ease.
We conducted a survey to the students recently to ask their feedback about the library and its collections and services, and received very positive feedback overall. We will continue to work our way through their suggestions (there were many) and will work to do what we can to continuously make the library a better place for students to use.
Enjoy your holidays and thank to everyone for supporting the library!
