International Women’s Day Breakfast 2023

It was an incredibly special morning on Friday, February 24th. An at-capacity Greenfields Albert Park buzzed with excitement as many generations of Mac.Robbians and families reconnected and gathered together for an important celebration – International Women’s Day.

International Women's Day is a global day devoted to celebrating the achievements of all women, in all their diversities. Last Friday, emotional stories were shared, powerful messages were delivered, and the complex theme of ‘Cracking the Code’ was thoroughly explored, analysed and discussed.

Following breakfast, we were humbled to hear from Dr. Jennifer Tang, who shared with us thought-provoking insights about the issues of gender equality in the world of technology, and more importantly, the challenges of identifying and overcoming gender biases in the context of artificial intelligence.

The Q&A session with our special guests Shanika Galaudage, Margaret Webb AM and Dr. Jennifer Tang was filled with valuable insight. Attendees held their breaths and listened beautifully as our panellists broke down the meaning of innovation in its many forms, what it meant to be an innovator, and spread a powerful message to all of the young women in the room as they urged us to ‘be bold’ and ‘[to] not settle for less’ if ever facing gender bias in the workplace.

The sense of female empowerment exhibited by the brilliant and strong-minded women in the room truly reminded everyone to reflect on how far we’ve come, but also, how far there is still to go in achieving complete equality. More importantly, we thank our guest speakers for reinspiring us all to strive towards a gender-equal future.

This breakfast could not have been possible without the support of Naomi Gladman, Jack Richardson, our Principal team and many other staff members. For this, we sincerely thank them for their tireless efforts and contributions in making this event such a resounding success.
