Hydrology & Water Resources Symposium 2021

I am pleased to say that my research abstract has been selected as an oral presentation at the National Hydrology & Water Resources Symposium 2021 (HWRS 2021), organised by Engineers Australia. This conference is a two-day long online forum that allows water experts from all over Australia to come together to share their work, and will run from August 31st to September 1st, 2021.

I am particularly excited about this opportunity as I will be one of the youngest presenters amongst PhD researchers, university professors, and other water industry experts. This is a great way for me to share my research and interact with leading professionals in the field. This opportunity comes after months of research into the role of wetlands to remove nitrate pollution from the stormwater that can lead to algal blooms and fish kills. Throughout the summer holidays, I collected stormwater and wetland water samples from several locations across Victoria to understand the factors that affect nitrate pollution in stormwater, as well the role wetlands can play to remove the nitrate from water. This project has helped me learn a lot about stormwater management, and I’m extremely grateful for my mentors, Ms. Ramdzan and Dr. Matt Burns, for all their help.

My research will help councils to better manage stormwater as well as avoid the eutrophication problem in many rivers. More information on the conference can be found here.
