House Week 2021

House Week was our brand-new initiative designed to further strengthen the extraordinary House spirit within the Mac.Rob community. Our aim for House Week was to unite all four Houses in order to raise money for the 2021 Mac.Rob fundraising initiative: OneGirl.

With the decoration of the overpass and the House Captains dressing up as fairies, the House spirit was radiating before House Week even started! Each day was themed around one House - Monday being Oreads, Tuesday being Naiads, Wednesday being Nereids, and Friday being Dryads. While the weather dampened some of our plans, our spirit prevailed and we were able to hold a successful House Week nonetheless!

In the end, our combined House effort raised around $700 for OneGirl, and we are hopeful that the girls who are unable to receive education during these times will one day experience the pride and joy of House.

Oreads

"House Week had to start off with a bang, and what better House to do that than the House of the volcano nymphs, Oreads! When the lunch bell rang, people began to excitedly enter the Hall, where we had set up two super fun and rewarding games. First up was chocolate toss, where people had to toss some coins and get them to land directly on some chocolate bars or in some cups. If they were victorious, they got to take the whole chocolate bar and a raffle ticket home. Sounds easy enough, right? Maybe not, as it proved harder than it looked as the line to play grew longer and longer!

Our other game was just as exciting as people gathered at tables to try and bounce at least five out of ten ping pong balls into rows of cups. Again, harder than it looks! Music blasted from the speakers and cheers erupted into the air as more students won raffle tickets and chocolate. The atmosphere truly was one of excitement and House spirit, and it’s something that we hoped that everyone appreciated and enjoyed. Thank you all SO much for making Oreads’ day such a blast!

Naiads

House Week was truly splash-tastic! We decorated the overpass beautifully to aesthetically show off each of our House’s colours and themes! We made sure our corner was oozing with as much water, the sea and anything blue! We also included a photo opportunity where Nymphs could take a photo in front of our legendary blue fins for a raffle ticket!

For Naiads’ day in particular, on Wednesday, we had originally had “Capture the Fish” and “Fill the Cup Relay” planned. Due to the wet weather (very on brand for Naiads), we instead had a spectacular scavenger hunt which turned out even bigger and better than our initial vision! There were House Caps and Reps located at multiple areas around the school. Starting in the Hall, our Nymphs had to follow a series of questions and pass some fun challenges to get a word. Once they had obtained all 8 words, there was a final sentence (The Best House Is All Of The Houses) to re-arrange from the words they earned. Participation earned them a raffle ticket and finishing the scavenger hunt allowed them to win 3 raffle tickets each! The amazing whole school participation, camaraderie and enthusiasm we witnessed was truly crazy and made our blue hearts so full! Everyone was super hyped to get involved and have fun with their friends while celebrating our House spirit during such a special week!

Nereids

Wednesday was Nereids day! We had some lovely sunny weather and played dodgeball on our patch of grass at lunch. Students from all Year levels came to have some sporty fun and we even had a special guest: Mr. Vi, join the Year 12 team. The fun activities allowed us to celebrate inter-House teamwork, as the teams had students spread across not only different houses but also Year levels. We saw some great collaboration and supportiveness from our participants even with our competitive house spirit. We House Captains absolutely loved seeing the spread of purple and white on our free dress day; we love all the Nereids students who showed their dedication and excitement on Friday through their clothing despite the chilly weather!

Dryads

Ending off House Week was Dryads! Fortunately, the weather was on our side as the clouds cleared up and the sun shone brightly for our amazing performers! We had a cute little show with everyone coming together to watch and have picnics with their friends. We saw so much talent, from dancing to singing to instruments and more singing and two dinosaurs falling in love! We had an epic House rep performance to finish off our amazing show and a surprise of delicious Krispy Kreme treats to share our overflowing love for those involved. Thank you to everyone who cheered on the wonderful performers and also to those who showed their House spirit by wearing their House colours for the House-coloured clothes day. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our first ever House Week!
