Clean Up Australia Day 2023

After months of planning, the Enviro Captains were able to hold our annual combined Clean Up Australia Day on March 10th, in collaboration with Melbourne High School. More than 60 students from Mac.Rob and Melbourne High walked to either Albert Park Lake or South Melbourne Beach, in an effort to clean up our local environment to instigate tangible change.

While collecting rubbish in the various locations, students made some interesting and funny finds, including a wine glass, slabs of concrete and multiple pacifiers. After finding unusual objects such as these, or even common everyday items, students were able to practically learn what is able to be recycled and what goes into landfill. Coffee cups and lids were commonly found and many students learned that while these products may state that they are recyclable, they are unable to go into the recycling as they are lined with plastic and covered with food.

Clean Up Australia was not only an eye-opening experience, but also an enjoyable one for both Mac.Rob and Melbourne High students, where everyone was able to establish inter-year level bonds and form new memories. This event served as a wonderful opportunity to positively impact the environment, as well as foster a stronger sense of community within Mac.Rob.

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible and to all the students who attended. We hope this event was memorable for everyone that attended, and that they were able to learn something and take it away from the initiative.
