Friendship Speed Dating

In an effort to foster new friendships and connections, the SRC Wellbeing Action Team at Mac.Rob organised a unique and exciting event during lunchtime on October 17th in Term 3. The event, aptly named 'Speed Dating', brought together over 60 students who were eager to meet new people and expand their social circles.

Hosted by Nidhi B (Year 9), Oluwafisayo A (Year 10), and Dr. McPherson (Head of Wellbeing and Engagement), the event provided participants with question sheets to facilitate conversations, and sticky notes to write each other's contact details. Students enthusiastically engaged in three-minute rotations, getting to know each other through a series of conversation starters. The atmosphere was lively, with music playing in the background, creating a vibrant and friendly vibe.

The event proved to be a huge success as students discovered commonalities and connections they may not have otherwise encountered. Excited voices could be heard exclaiming, 'Oh, I think you're in my French class!' or 'I've seen you around but never got the chance to talk!' It was great to witness the event's success in connecting the cohort and breaking down social barriers.

To add an element of friendly competition, pairs were challenged to list the most interesting things they learned about their new friends, with chocolate prizes awarded to the winners. The excitement continued with a hilarious 3-legged race, where the victorious pair also received a chocolate prize.

The event showed the importance of creating opportunities for students to interact outside of their usual social circles. It not only allowed them to make new friends but also promoted a sense of inclusivity and unity within the school community.

The SRC Action Team were thrilled to see students actively engaging in conversations and genuinely enjoying the experience. It was incredible to witness the connections being made and the positive impact it had on everyone.

As the event came to a close, students left with smiles on their faces, new contacts on their phones, and new names learnt. The SRC Wellbeing Action Team succeeded in organising an event that will undoubtedly be remembered as a highlight of the year!
