Wellbeing | “A positive m.pact!”

The Student Wellbeing and Engagement team has been keeping its finger on the pulse this term, with its launch of the m.pact Empowerment Program for Year 9 students. m.pact is a group program designed to strengthen the social connection of students, support their transition to Mac.Rob and to help establish a sense of belonging, which is fundamental to successful and enjoyable engagement with learning. The program puts our school values of community, growth, responsibility, and compassion into full practice.

The idea of m.pact was conceived as a response to student feedback, consultation with parents and education staff and following a review of our wellbeing and counselling data from 2022. We will complete the final week of the program this week.

The response from the current group of students enrolled in the program has been overwhelmingly positive. Students have developed in a range of interpersonal skills, deepened the quality of their peer relationships and grown in their self-awareness. We are very proud of the current group of students and how they engaged with the program. m.pact will be running again in Term 3 and students can opt into the program by clicking on the links below, speaking with a Year Level Coordinator or one of the wellbeing staff.

m.pact is a five-session intervention that delivers a combination of evidence-based strategies, skills-building activities, and psychoeducation to a small group of students. The intended outcome is that they get a clearer sense of their identity within the context of Mac.Rob, meet like-minded peers, and feel more confident to initiate and maintain fulfilling friendships. Our first group of participants completed the program this term and the program will run again in Term 3.

If you feel your child could benefit from exploring healthy peer relationships, assertively expressing thoughts and feelings and practising new ways of relating, please register your interest here for parents or here for students.
