SRC Week 2024

In Week 4 of Term 2, we were thrilled to announce the commencement of SRC Week – a week dedicated to celebrating student voice, agency, and leadership. Aligning with our 2024 motto, “Shoot for the STARS,” this year’s SRC Week embraced the theme “Ad Astra,” Latin for “To the Stars.”

We kicked off the festivities with Mac.Rob Monday, where engagement teams from Years 9 to 11 hosted lunchtime events to foster cohort unity. The Year 9 students enjoyed an afternoon of cheers and excitement in the hall during a spirited Lip Sync Battle. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Australian TV show Child Genius, the Year 10s held their own version in L305/L307, complete with ‘squistles’ and canteen voucher prizes. Meanwhile, the Year 11s opted for a relaxed atmosphere with a screening of the 2023 film Wonka in the Theatre, paired with chocolate goodies and the chance to win a coveted golden ticket.

Following this, we celebrated Traditional Tuesday – a rendition of the long-standing Mac.Rob tradition. On this day, students wore traditional clothing to school to celebrate their diverse cultures, whilst the SRC Co-President led the eagerly awaited SRC Week assembly, showcasing various student performances. A special highlight was the surprise appearance of Isaiah Lugo-Hale, Mac.Rob’s very own, roof-raising The Voice legend. In preparation for Thursday’s whole-school event – The Tetris Games – participants were selected in front of the entire school. In true Hunger Games fashion, the names of tributes were drawn from a glass jar by the SRC Co-Presidents, ICT Co-Captains, and members of the Assistant Principal team.

Thursday featured the highly anticipated Tetris Games, held in the hall at lunchtime. Students and teachers competed fiercely for canteen vouchers, a golden Tetris trophy, and the prestigious title of ‘Mac.Rob Tetris God.’ After a lunchtime of intense competition, Phuong L from the Year 11 district emerged victorious, securing two boxes of favourites for herself and Niamh C as the winning Year level.

To conclude SRC Week, SAT Wellbeing hosted the annual Wellbeing Expo at lunch, featuring a variety of activities including gratitude heart strings, smoothie bikes, and the anticipated Mac.Rob talent show. With performances ranging from exceptional singing to dynamic dancing, the judges faced a tough decision. Ultimately, Angel M was crowned the winner, with Harshika D being lauded as the crowd favourite.

To say this was a week to remember would be an understatement! From the joyful memories created to the budding connections formed, we hope students have gained a greater understanding of the power of student agency, and developed an appreciation for the vibrancy of student culture.
