Remote Learning Reflection by Ms. Tiffani Tunnicliffe

Remote learning has prompted a massive shift in the way schools create and deliver curriculum to students, often without established precedence or a clear roadmap for what to do. Over the last 18 months, staff at Mac.Rob have worked tirelessly to develop practical tactics and processes for employing new technology, improving wellbeing, and engaging students in creative, innovative ways.

Our incredible Sub-School Assistant, Ms. Tiffani Tunnicliffe, was invited by her alma mater, Monash University, to write about her experiences with remote learning, and has put together this fantastic reflection on this new educational frontier. Her article, “Practical ways teachers can change remote learning to improve wellbeing and engagement”, is chock full of activities, exercises, and mindfulness techniques for getting students to connect with themselves, their peers, and their learning while studying remotely.

As Tiffani writes, “Students need leaders who model prioritising wellbeing, empathy and support. There is so much power in saying, ‘Hey, I’m having a really tough day today but it’s going to be OK because I have my blanket and my cat and a hot chocolate and I’m looking after myself’. We need to be realistic, and promote wellbeing, self-care and mental health above all else.”

Fantastic advise for everyone undertaking, delivering, or supervising remote learning, and a wonderful reflection of the approach to teaching and learning at Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School!
