Principal’s Update | March

There is much excitement this week as the Year 9s head off to camp at Lord Somers on the Mornington Peninsula. Their transition to school, their relationships with a broader range of students and staff, and their willingness to grow and try new things will be further developed throughout this week. I am looking forward to spending the day with both groups on Wednesday.

We are delighted with the positive and productive first half of Term 1. My start of Term message centred around reigniting our engagement and sense of community - building back better after the COVID lockdowns of 2020/21. I have been so pleased that students, staff and families have done exactly that.

Literally hundreds of students have been engaged in sport tryouts, musical and dramatic activities, social service, debating, volunteering, seminars, and so much more. We were also thrilled to host an information session on learning and wellbeing which was attended by about 190 Mac.Rob Year 9 parents.

Last week we celebrated our school value of Community at assembly, where the Captains spoke of what community means to them, and I outlined how we strategically organise the school to create smaller communities within our larger whole school community. Structures like Connect and House ensure that students develop an identity and connection.

The annual International Womens’ Day Breakfast, 2022.

Mac.Rob also celebrated International Womens’ Day on Friday, March 4 at Greenfields, with a reception for approximately 100 people including students, parents, Alumnae, ex-Principals, and friends in education, politics and beyond. Our student leaders led an engaging discussion with former students, Cr Jasmine Nguyen (Mayor of Brimbank) and Katja Bizilj (former naval Captain) about how they have broken biases to impact their communities and workplaces.

The second half of Term 1 will also be full of learning, joy and excitement, with: a Festival of Colours, a range of volunteering opportunities, leadership development, Brain Bee, Ride to School day, our Annual Report to the Community, Parents’ Association AGM, Prospective Student Information nights, Hot Summer Night Concert, the World’s Greatest Shave, House Drama and more, culminating with the opportunity for students and parents/guardians discussing learning progress at the online Parent, Student, Teacher Conversations (PTSCs) in April (Thursday 7 and Friday 8).
