Primary School Mentoring Program
It is a heartwarming conclusion to a term filled with growth and learning; nineteen Year 10 students have successfully mentored 50 eager Grade 6 students during Term 3. This mentoring program not only benefited the Grade 6 students but also proved to be a transformative experience for the mentors themselves.
One of the mentors shared, "The mentoring program was especially rewarding as it allowed us to develop both our interpersonal skills, as well as our leadership qualities. As we were mentoring younger students, we had to ensure that we communicated our message in a way in which they could understand and did not feel overwhelmed by."
Indeed, connecting with younger students can be challenging, as it requires clear communication and a level of patience that the Year 10 mentors had to develop. "It was often difficult to grab the students' attention, particularly towards the end of the sessions, but as we progressed through the weeks, it became easier and easier to do so," another mentor noted.
"This mentoring program has demonstrated the incredible potential of our students to make a positive impact on each other. It not only fosters academic growth but also installs valuable life skills and creates a sense of unity within our school community."
The mentoring program's success is a testament to the commitment of the mentors and the support of the school community It exemplifies the power of mentorship in building a nurturing and inclusive school environment.
As the grand finale, the Grade 6 students from South Yarra Primary School and South Melbourne Park Primary School were treated to a screening of Encanto in the Mac.Rob Hall, accompanied by their mentors and delicious popcorn.
