Japanese Model UN

この後の討議で、各国の大の皆様とお話しできるのを楽しみにしています。

With that, the 2023 Japanese Model United Nations started with a bang. What was to follow was a day filled with diplomacy, heated debates, and the furious signing of amendments.

Three teams from Mac.Rob participated in the event: IB Year 1 representing The Republic of Singapore, VCE Unit 1/2 representing The Republic of Ghana, and VCE Unit 3/4 representing the Republic of Cuba. We’d spent the months prior collaborating to write position statements and learn relevant vocabulary that related to the Resolution topic of “Sustainable Cities”. But, on the day itself, we had to go our separate ways. We were no longer students of Mac.Rob, but delegates of our respective nations. We would do whatever it took to pass a resolution that aligned with our country’s best interests.

All Mac.Rob delegates involved themselves in every debate, raising their placards to speak and putting forth their country’s opinions in Japanese. Allegiances were formed, and enemies were created; Ghana and Lebanon found themselves best friends by the end of the day, although Singapore was double-crossed by Spain into supporting an amendment that they hadn’t originally signed. An amendment put forth by the Mac.Rob delegates with several signatories was met with near-unanimous support, and was voted into the Resolution!

We were extremely grateful to be able to attend such an exciting Japanese Language event. Not only did participating in Japanese Model United Nations help increase our fluency in the language and expand our vocabulary, but it also encouraged us to be confident and act upon spontaneity. This event facilitated our growth as critical, global-minded thinkers, and young leaders of the next generation.

Then, the moment of truth arrived: the final vote on the edited Resolution. Would it pass, or would all the delegates’ hard work and perseverance during the day go to waste? The Secretary-General slowly counted the country placards that were raised… 決議案は可決されました! The Resolution has passed!
