I AM: Melbourne Midsumma Festival

In the blazing heat on Sunday, February 4th, a dozen brave Mac.Robbians rallied together to celebrate and support our inclusive community.

Our preparations for the march began with Pride Club members hand painting the banner that we used to represent Mac.Rob in the march. Everyone collaborated in its creation, with each of us putting our hands together to make the rainbow representing our diversity, alongside the hand-painted school logo.

Then came the day to show it off!

We marched alongside other high schools and our wonderful supervising staff with a speaker blaring iconic hits like “Dancing Queen” and “Born This Way”. Crowds gathered on the side of the road and on rooftops to support those who were marching in a show of solidarity and community. Seeing all this unfold while marching was a truly euphoric feeling and we revelled in the sense of unity and connection with the wider community. The joy this feeling brought us outweighed the intense glare of the sun and the heavy heat we faced.

Participating in this event was a great opportunity to see organisations, schools, and wider communities all sharing the same joy. We hope that this will become a long-lasting tradition at Mac.Rob!
