Goethe Poetry Competition | 2022
In August, 2022, seventeen German students participated in the Goethe Poetry Competition run by Monash University. Due to the pandemic, the competition had not been able to run since 2019. Thankfully, the competition finally resumed this year, however, it was carried out online. While all the competitors had to recite the poetry to the adjudicators 1-on-1, the finalists had to present their speeches to everyone at the event. As expected, there were some technical difficulties that ensued and at that point, we were thoroughly spooked. The noise from the L1 Building renovations didn’t help either, but luckily, we managed to work our way around the technical issues & the noise, and recited our poetry.
Ten students from Year 10, three from Year 11 and four from Year 12 competed in this year’s competition. From Year 10, Keely L and Diya A were finalists, from Year 11, Praneetha M was a finalist and from Year 12, Vyomikaa M and Kano B-V were finalists.
Congratulations to Keely for placing 3rd in the Year 10 division, and Vyomikaa for placing 3rd in the Year 12 division. Special congratulations to Kano who placed 1st in the Year 12 division! Your poem was truly spectacular! We had a lot of fun that day and highly encourage any other German students to participate next year.
