GIV Report: Term 2, 2022

Staff Talent Show

On May 26th, we kicked it off with our Staff Talent Show! With such a vast variety of talents ranging from spectacular seamstry to dynamic dances, we were all able to watch the magnificent performances Mac.Rob had to offer! We were able to raise $287.10 all towards the Royal Children’s Hospital! Mention that we raised an extra $256 through the Good Friday Appeal near the end of Term 2, so in total, our school contributed $543.10 towards the Royal Children’s Hospital. Through this Talent Show we wanted to bring our school community together and encourage various communities within Mac.Rob to get involved, because it’s not just students who can participate in volunteering, staff can too! We hope that through the marvellous talent show that all staff within our school community will continue joining us in our volunteering initiatives as we continue giving back to those around us.

Let’s see what the GIV cabinet has to say about such a wonderful talent show…

“With insane vocals and snazzy dance moves, to a showdown of a lifetime and mesmerising seamstry. It is safe to say that the talent Mac.Rob staff hold is beyond the unexpected. Performances that made us laugh, shocked to our core, performances that we will never forget. It definitely was a talent show one could not miss!” - Amanda

“A talent show for the ages! This was the event that everyone was talking about for days after… enthralling vocals and seamless performances.Mac.Rob can’t thank the teachers enough for their participation in the talent show; they helped raise nearly $300 for The Royal Children’s Hospital and gave us all a good time! I think we all enjoyed this talent show and would love to have another one soon so we can showcase all the wonderful staff talent at Mac.Rob!” - Poorva

“What a memorable experience! Classrooms were shook with the brilliance of everyone’s performance. The Mac.Rob staff put their all into the performance and we all can’t wait to see a performance by them again!” - Amy

“What an amazing experience. The Mac.Rob staff went beyond the expectations of the students and put on an unforgettable performance, something which was not to miss. The dancing, singing, showdowns and more not only impressed but captivated the interests of all students, and it is safe to say that this was an unmissable performance. A special thanks and congratulations to the staff which performed, it was a remarkable experience.” - Preethika

Hampers for Homeless

Hampers for Homeless is Mac.Rob’s yearly donation initiative, where students across the Mac.Rob community come together to donate goods such as: clothes, sanitary items, toiletries, canned food, reusable cloth bags and so much more! With collections opened from May 9th to 16th, we were able to assemble 279 hampers! By May 20th all donations were ready to be picked up by Avalon Centre. Avalon Centre is an organisation that works to help the homeless community in Melbourne, an extremely vulnerable community in these times.

We hope that through this initiative that students are able to see that volunteering is not just giving money, but can be done in other ways such as donating items! By being sustainable and repurposing items that we may think have no use of, can greatly impact another’s life. So, any time you see something in your own home that you think you don’t really use anymore (of course still in good quality), think about how you can donate it to help others who may have more use for it!

Thank you to each and every single one of you who did participate in contributing something towards Hampers for Homeless! We truly appreciate each donation and know that all will be of good use to someone in the Melbourne community.

We would like to give special thanks to the following people:

  • Year 12: Pakhi A, Aidan H and Isabella N

  • Year 11: Kashvi S, Katinka S

  • Year 10: Faiza K, Poorva G

  • Year 9: Shayla L, Meenakshi D

And to the following forms for their amazing contributions:

  • Senior School: 11J

  • Middle School: 10F

Amanda, Callista, Senithya, and the GIV Team
