Environment Committee Update - Term 3, 2024
Enviro x Connect
A few weeks ago, we delved into the pressing issue of overconsumption during Connect. This lesson was designed by students in our Environment Committee and was aimed to educate students about the environmental impacts of excessive consumption. We hoped to inspire actionable steps to minimise our collective carbon footprint. As the effects of climate change continue to become more pronounced, it is imperative for younger generations to take responsibility and make conscious efforts to reduce waste. By examining real world examples and discussing practical strategies, students were encouraged to reflect on their own consumption habits and consider more sustainable choices.
Our Connect lesson focused on our use of bins at school and the dangers of overconsumption in modern society. We wanted students to be able to understand how to use the bins properly to not only benefit the environment but to also clean up the school grounds. We also looked at overconsumption, focusing on topics that are very popular especially in the younger demographic at Macrob such as fast fashion and social media trends.
Each Connect class separated into groups to make infographics about what can be put in the bins at school. It was a fun and engaging activity that helped students understand how to clean up and sort their rubbish. At the end of the Connect lesson, we played a Blooket to consolidate the information that we had learnt. It was a friendly competition between students of each Connect class and was a great way to wrap up the Connect lesson.
It was wonderful to see student members of the Environment Committee taking over the reigns of Connect from their teacher, leading their group in the lesson. As a student designed and led classroom lesson, it showcased our ability to use our own agency in learning.
We strive to continue to educate ourselves and take proactive steps towards a sustainable future. Every small action counts in making a big difference!

Enviro Thrift Store
On Friday, July 26th, the Environment Committee brought back the iconic Thrift Store event, concluding our series of whole-school activities for 2024 with remarkable success! Thanks to your incredible support, we raised a lot of funds for the RSPCA and made a meaningful impact on our community and the environment.
In the weeks leading up to the event, students generously donated items they no longer needed, including clothes, books, and various miscellaneous items, having a chance to win prizes (sponsored by Fressko).
The day of the event was an incredible display of community spirit, with tons of students browsing through tables filled with second-hand treasures. The chance to purchase these items at affordable prices was not only great for the students but also supported our mission to fight fast fashion, promoting thrifting and responsible consumption for a greener future.
The turnout was fantastic! We were thrilled to see so many Mac.Rob students participating in reducing textile waste simply by choosing second-hand options. Every purchase made a difference, contributing to the reduction of the environmental footprint of fast fashion.
We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the generous students who donated items. The thrift store would not have been possible without your amazing support and contributions! Another special thanks goes to Ms Day and Enviro Committee for their dedication and hard work in organising and running the event to ensure it was a success.
We could not have asked for a better outcome and we are inspired by the collective enthusiasm. As we move forward through the year, let's continue to make thoughtful choices that benefit our planet. Thank you everyone for being a part of this event and for helping us make a difference!
